Government response to LD incident inadequate: Justice Masoodi

Srinagar, Jan 20 (KNS): Justice Hasnain Masoodi (Chairperson Selection cum Oversight Committee) has expressed dissatisfaction with the response of State Government to LD hospital incident.
In a statement issued to KNS, it is pointed out that restricting the enquiry to one Doctor on duty would not suffice in view of gravity of the incident. He has demanded full-fledged enquiry into overall working of Associated Hospitals in general and LD Hospital in particular.
It is stated that the recent incident should not be taken as an isolated incident but one depicting insensitivity of the Hospital administration to Juvenile issues and Rights of the Children as also failure on part of the Associated Hospitals Administration in inculcating the sense of discipline and responsibility on part of the Medical staff while dealing with such emergencies.
Justice Masoodi has reiterated that the Right to be born and Right of Survival are important Rights of the Child and as is being emphasized while implementing the Integrated Child Protection services (ICPS) in the State.
In the present case it is stated that both the Rights of the Girl Children were infringed. The statement also underlines the importance of a broader enquiry to look into the Non Availability of Medical care to pregnant women and new born babies at District Hospitals, so that the steps are taken to ensure that unnecessary pressure is not mounted on Tertiary hospitals like LD hospital.
Child Welfare Committee Srinagar has been directed to monitor and come up with the update of Investigation in the matter. SCOC proposes to bring the incident to the notice of High Court as well as the High Court Juvenile Justice Committee, so that recurrence of such incidents is ruled out in future. (KNS)
