Fresh snowfall leads to closure of Sgr-Jammu highway

 Srinagar, Jan 13 (KNS):  The fresh snowfall and rains lashed Kashmir Valley on Monday which once again led to closure of Srinagar-Jammu national highway.

Reports of moderate snowfall were received across the Kashmir valley since yesterday evening while in Srinagar intermittent snowfall started on Monday morning.
 
 
Reports said Srinagar-Jammu national highway was again closed on Monday after fresh snowfall and rains lashed the Kashmir valley.  More than 2000 vehicles are reported to be stranded on 264-km long highway.
 
A Traffic police official told KNS that the National Highway was closed for vehicular traffic on Monday morning due to the snowfall. He said road became slippery due to snowfall in Jawahar Tunnel area since last evening and the movement of vehicles was also suspended in Banihal-Qazigund section as well.
 
 
he Said till the Snow are not cleared from the highway, no fresh traffic will be allowed either from Srinagar or Jammu, the National Highway Authority of India has pressed in men and machinery to clear the Snow from the road.
 
 
The officer has appealed the people not to start the journey from the either side of the road before knowing the status of the road from nearest traffic units (TCUs).
A Metrological department Director Sonam Lotus said that weather is expected to improve from Tuesday (KNS)
