KU suspends class-work till January 29, exams scheduled on Jan 18, 19 postponed

Srinagar, Jan 17 (KNS): Fresh snowfall cripples the life across the Kashmir valley, from Tuesday morning the snowflakes are again touching the earth’s face. Meteorological department has predicted moderate to low snowfall for next 24 hours.
The night temperature which settled at the minimum of minus 1.9 degrees Celsius, compared to the previous night's minus 0.9 degree Celsius.
People from across the valley are facing shortage of essential supplies and electricity, and they requested to the concerned authorities to gear up the machinery.
From the divisional commissioner office yesterday, an avalanche advisory was issued for higher reaches. All the district headquarters have setup control room and asked people to seek help.
Deputy Commissioner Kupwara Gh Mohammed Dar told KNS, the general public not to venture in avalanche prone areas and in case of any emergency contact district administration of Control Room no: 01955-252280, 253335, 9596472005, PCR Kupwara/ Handwara on 01955-252451 and 01955-262295.
Meanwhile the Srinagar-Jammu national highway remained closed for second day the traffic police officials said that, Banihal and Jawahar Tunnel has been cleared early morning, but still the patch at multiple locations is very slippery. Sprinkling of salt and urea is going on. It will further take some time for NHW to be traffic worthy till some temperature raises.
Kashmir University
Talking to KNS, PRO Kashmir University Faheem Aslam said that the Class Work in all Teaching Departments of the University/Campuses shall remain suspended from 18.01.2017 to 29.01.2017.
“However, all Departmental/Campus offices shall function normally,” read an order issued by Dean, Academic Affairs.
Meanwhile, all Kashmir University examinations scheduled to be held on 18th January 2017 (Wednesday) and 19th January 2017 (Thursday) are postponed in view of fresh snowfall. Fresh dates for the deferred examinations shall be notified separately. (KNS)
