Srinagar, May 18 (KNS): At least four militants were on Saturday killed in twin encounters that raged between forces and militants in South Kashmir’s Pulwama and north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.
In the pre-dawn hours today, a cordon and search operation was launched in Panzgam village of South Kashmir’s Pulwama district following the inputs about the presence of militants.
Police said the hiding militants were challenged but they opened fire, triggering a gunfight, which led to the killing of three militants affiliated with Hizb-ul-Mujahideen.
The three slain militants have been identified as Showkat Dar, Irfan War and Muzafar Sheikh who as per police are involved in several cases.
Police added that arms and ammunition were recovered from the encounter site while as the police urged people not to visit the gunfight site until the site is sanitized.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
Meanwhile, another gunfight broke out today between forces and militants in Hatlangoo area of Sopore in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.
Police said that a militant was killed in the gunfight that raged after the area was cordoned off by the forces following specific inputs about the presence of militants.
They said that identification of slain militant was being ascertained while as arms and ammunition was recovered from his possession.
The searches were going on in the area when the report was last filed. (KNS)
