Food Safety Drive in Srinagar Targets Street Vendors, Promotes Hygiene

Srinagar, July 12 (KNS): The Food Safety team in Srinagar today conducted inspections in Habkadal, Babdamb, and Munawarabad, focusing on street vendors as part of an ongoing public health enforcement drive. The aim was to ensure the quality and safety of food being sold and to educate vendors on essential hygiene practices.

During the inspections, the team emphasized the importance of hand hygiene, advising vendors to wash their hands regularly—especially before handling food and after contact with waste or raw materials. They also highlighted the need for safe storage, guiding vendors to maintain proper temperatures and prevent cross-contamination.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel

In addition, vendors were urged to prevent contamination by using clean utensils, covering food, and ensuring cleanliness in and around their stalls. The use of potable water for food preparation and cleaning was also stressed.

Officials stated that this dual approach of enforcement and education is designed to build a strong culture of food safety at the grassroots level. The drive is being conducted under the directions of Dr. Syed Abid Rashid Shah, Administrative Secretary of the Health and Medical Education Department, and Smita Sethi, Commissioner of Food Safety.(KNS)
