Five-days Training Programme on Disaster Management Culminated at GDC Samba

 Srinager, May 26(KNS): The valedictory session brought the curtains down on the Five-days Training Programme on Disaster Management, organized by NSS, NCC Units and Sports department of GDC Samba in collaboration with DY. Office of the Controller, Civil Defense, Samba.

 

The session was chaired by Dr. Twinkle Suri, Principal of the College and was attended by the senior officials from the office of the Controller, Civil Defense, Samba. During her address, Dr. Suri stressed on the need to have more such Training programmes in the future for knowledge sharing and combating any disaster and emergency situations.

She also applauded the trainees for their dedication and stated that the trainees have a bright future and are ready to manage any manmade or natural disaster in future as the programme provides practical expertise and examples of applied knowledge which will equip the students with all relevant skills and tools needed in order to effectively respond to both natural and man-made disasters and resulting complex emergencies.

The major thrust of the training programme was to equip students with existing strategies and tools, practical exercises, case studies, and interactive multicultural discussion to explore the key issues faced while handling disaster situations.

In this context, Sh. Jyoti Parkash, an instructor, from the office of the Controller, Civil Defence, Samba, resource person of the occasion, gave an insightful deliberation on disaster management, first aid, primary respondent, types of fractures, CPR Cardiopulmonary resuscitation and FBAO- Foreign Body Airway obstruction along with the theatrical part of CPR and FBAO. He further talked about accidents caused due to fire and gave demonstration of utilizing fire extinguisher, evacuation of fire victims, CSSR collapse structure and types of rope kit.

A successful interactive session for the students was also held during the training program. The students exhibited satisfaction as the event has enhanced their knowledge and made them ready to tackle any untoward manmade or natural disaster. DSP, Naseem Akhtar (Dy., Controller Civil Defence office Samba) expressed her gratitude to Principal, GDC Samba, Dr. Twinkle Suri who gave an opportunity to the civil defense department for organizing such awareness Programme
in the college. The event was attended by Dr. Joginder Singh, ANO Armed , Dr. Rajni Sharma, ANO Naval, Prof. Sanjeev Jamwal, Department of Sports and other faculty members of GDC, Samba. The whole event was elegantly anchored and modulated by Dr. Geeta Lakhotra,, NSS. PO, GDC Samba.(KNS).
