Says leaders detained without cause, opposition afraid to question BJP-led central authority
Srinagar, July 14 (KNS): Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (JKNC) chief spokesperson and Zaidbal MLA, Tanvir Sadiq, has criticised the recent actions of the Jammu and Kashmir administration, calling it unprecedented for a non-elected government to shut down an elected one.
Speaking to reporters, Sadiq said, “I think this is the first time in the history of this country that a non-elected government has shut down an elected government. Nothing can be more shameful than this.”
He said that the homes of ministers, including the Deputy Chief Minister, were sealed, and the entire elected government was rendered non-functional. “You shut down the home of a minister, a deputy CM, who himself was a deputy CM in Jammu. You shut down all our ministers and advisors. You shut down the MLAs,” he said.
Sadiq questioned the motive behind the restrictions. “What do you want to show the world? That there is no democracy here? Or do you want to give a new version of democracy?” he asked.
He also said that elected representatives were not allowed to perform Kharaj-e-Aqeedat at the mausoleum of a political leader. “It is very saddening that an elected government did not allow our soldiers to perform the Kharaj-e-Aqeedat. What would they have done? They would have gone there, performed the Fatiha, performed the Kharaj-e-Aqeedat and would have gone back,” he said.
He added that such visits have always been part of political tradition in Jammu and Kashmir. “In the last 70 years, the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference and other political parties always went to Shodha and performed the Fatiha there.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel”
Sadiq said that the current administration may be out of touch with the ground reality. “Whoever has taken this decision, perhaps they are far from the ground reality. Perhaps they do not understand what the feelings of Jammu and Kashmir are,” he said.
He also questioned the silence from New Delhi. “It is saddening that despite what happened yesterday, there was no talk from Delhi,” he said.
Sadiq pointed to the detention of elected officials, including the Chief Minister and MLAs. “As we have seen, the CM of the elected government was also detained. All the MLAs were detained.”
He criticised opposition parties for targeting the elected government while remaining silent on the role of the Lieutenant Governor’s administration.
“The opposition only targeted the elected government. This is the second saddening thing,” he said. “No one is talking about the LG government. No one is talking about the BJP. No one is talking about the undemocratic setup that took place yesterday.”
Sadiq named several parties, saying they have avoided criticising the central administration. “The PDP, Altaf Bukhari, PC, all these people are behind us,” he said. “Perhaps they are afraid. I think the PDP is afraid, the PC is afraid. They did not raise a finger on the BJP government even once.”(KNS).
