Srinagar, Nov 26 (KNS): Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha said that the number of government offices in the Union Territory has increased from 32 to 75, providing broader employment opportunities for local youth.
He stated that jobs in Jammu and Kashmir are now awarded strictly on merit, removing previous barriers that hindered talented and educated individuals due to favoritism. Sinha traced the historical context of governance and employment in the region.
He said that earlier, citizens often struggled to secure positions in administration despite qualifications and talent. He added that the constitutional framework now ensures equal opportunities for all residents, providing access to positions such as IAS, IPS, and other government roles.
The Lieutenant Governor highlighted the role of the Indian Constitution in safeguarding rights and enabling social and economic development. He referred to the adoption of the Constitution on November 26, 1949, noting that it created a framework of equality, unity, and participation for all citizens. Sinha said that parliamentary laws and central legislation have been fully implemented in J&K, extending rights to property ownership, voting, and employment that were previously limited. According to him, these changes have allowed citizens to access government schemes, infrastructure projects, and social services without discrimination.
He said that the implementation of these laws has strengthened governance and accountability, ensuring that benefits reach every citizen. Infrastructure, health, and welfare programs have been expanded, and administrative access has been simplified.
Sinha called on the people of Jammu and Kashmir to actively participate in the development of the Union Territory.
He said that citizens have a role in upholding equality, social justice, and peace, and contributing to nation-building. By focusing on merit-based employment and expanded government offices, Sinha said the region is moving toward inclusive development and opportunities for all residents.(KNS)
