Directs CE I&FC Kashmir to expedite dredging of river Jhelum, flood channels

Srinagar, Jul 11 (KNS): Secretary PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control, Farooq Ahmad Shah today reviewed the functioning of these Departments with all the concerned Chief Engineers and District SE’s in a meeting in his office chamber at Civil Secretariat, Srinagar. The meeting was also attended by Chief Engineers and SE’s from Jammu Division through Video conferencing.
Secretary reviewed the important projects and works being presently executed by the Department and impressed upon all the concerned that all the projects should be completed in a time bound manner so that benefits of the projects are accrued to the public at an earliest. The Chief Engineers of PHE were directed to ensure that there should be adequate availability of drinking water to the general public during this summer season and wherever piped water supply is interrupted/ not presently possible, adequate tankers be deployed to provide drinking water. The Department was asked to prepare proposals for rejuvenation of all defunct filtration plants/ schemes to ensure their optimum functionality so that potable drinking water is supplied to the public.
The Chief Engineer I&FC Kashmir was directed to expedite dredging of river Jhelum/Flood Channels and completion of works on flood still channel. It was also emphasized by the Secretary that contract formalities of procurement of two new dredgers and construction of Hokarsar channel be finalized at the earliest.
The Secretary asked the HoDs to formulate new schemes under all sectors on the basis of requirement and the Administrative Department will find funding sources for the same.
The HoDs were asked to issue instructions to all field officers/officials to regularly visit areas of their jurisdiction and Executive Engineers were asked to hold regular public darbars in their areas to redress the public grievances. (KNS)
