Handwara, Sep 9 (KNS): Police on Wednesday arrested a former terrorist in Handwara for his involvement in a terror module linked to the banned Hizbul Mujahideen, and recovered a pistol, two magazines and 16 rounds of ammunition from his possession.
The accused, identified as Manzoor Ahmad Bhat, a resident of Kruhmura in Handwara, was apprehended during a joint operation conducted by Handwara Police along with Army's 21 Rashtriya Rifles and 92 Battalion of the CRPF, police said.
According to police, Bhat was operating in a "hybrid" mode and was involved with a Hizbul Mujahideen module active in the Handwara-Kupwara area.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
A Chinese-made pistol, two magazines and 16 rounds of pistol ammunition were recovered during the arrest, police said.
Police said the accused had earlier been arrested in two cases and was a former terrorist.
A case under relevant provisions of law has been registered at Handwara police station as FIR No. 232, and further investigation is underway.
Investigators are examining the module's network and activities and are working to identify other persons who may be associated with it, police said.(KNS)
