New Delhi, June 23,(KNS): The Election Commission of India (ECI) has launched a two-day capacity building programme for 379 Booth Level Officer (BLO) Supervisors at the India International Institute of Democracy and Election Management (IIIDEM), New Delhi.

Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar inaugurated the 13th batch of the training, which includes participants from Uttar Pradesh (111), Madhya Pradesh (128), Nagaland (67), Meghalaya (66), and Chandigarh (7). In the past three months, over 5,000 BLOs and Supervisors have been trained at IIIDEM to enhance their skills and knowledge.

In his address, CEC Gyanesh Kumar stressed the importance of these training programmes, highlighting that they ensure elections and voter list preparations are conducted strictly according to the law. He said, "There is nothing more transparent than the law in a democracy, and elections in India are held as per the legal framework."

He also informed participants about their responsibilities in helping voters understand their rights under Section 24 of the Representation of the People Act, 1950, regarding appeals on electoral rolls.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelHe encouraged BLOs to inform voters about how to appeal through the District Magistrate or Chief Electoral Officer if needed.

It was also noted that no appeals were received from the five participating states and UTs after the Special Summary Revision exercise concluded in January 2025, reflecting improved electoral roll accuracy.

The training aims to give hands-on experience in voter registration, form handling, and fieldwork. It also includes practical demonstrations of EVMs and VVPATs, along with mock polls, ensuring that the officers are well-equipped for upcoming elections.

This initiative reinforces the ECI’s ongoing commitment to free, fair, and transparent elections across the country. (KNS)
