EC Must Probe Over One Lakh Fake Votes: Ghulam Ahmad Mir

Srinagar, Aug 9 (KNS): Senior Congress leader and former J&K Pradesh Congress Committee president Ghulam Ahmad Mir has alleged that more than one lakh fake votes were cast in recent elections, calling on the Election Commission to investigate the matter to protect public trust in democracy.

According to KNS, Mir said the opposition had conducted six months of research before making the claim, using official Election Commission figures. He pointed out that Maharashtra saw a suspicious spike in voter numbers 50 lakh votes added in five years, and 5.4 lakh in just five months ahead of the Assembly polls.

Citing an example, Mir said in one Lok Sabha seat with seven Assembly segments, a party lost six segments but won the seventh by over one lakh votes enough to cover its losses elsewhere.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelInvestigation in that area, he said, revealed fake and non-existent voters.

“In such a big democracy, everyone trusts the Election Commission. But if such a massive violation is protected, 140 crore people will lose faith,” Mir warned, adding that the EC must verify the facts and respond.

He further alleged that during polls, the administration acted in a biased manner, government vehicles were misused for political benefit, and security forces allowed certain areas to be left unchecked, favouring the BJP in Jammu. Technical details on the extent of fake votes, he said, are still under investigation.(KNS)
