Srinagar, Feb 07 (KNS): The weatherman on Wednesday predicted light to moderate rains in the Valley from Feb 11.
Talking to KNS, Director Meteorological (MeT) department, Sonum Lotus said that there is possibility of light to moderate rains in the Valley from Feb 11 to Feb 14.
“We don’t expect any heavy rain or snowfall in the upcoming weeks. However, there should be some light rainfall in the Valley in between Feb 11, 12, 13 and 14,” he predicted.
Asked about the persisting dry spell, the weatherman said that the long dry spell is not new for the Valley as such situation has been witnessed in the recent past.
“In January 2015, the Valley received only 5.6 mm rainfall while the December was by and large dry,” he said, adding that the weather in January this year remained mostly dry.
Warning that the prevailing dryness is worrisome, the MeT director said that the timely snow and rainfall is must as the dry spell can lead to the water scarcity in summers.
Giving the reason for the continuing dry spell, he said unlike previous years, no western disturbance hit the Valley this year. (KNS)
