Dr. Farooq flags off Taekwondo players to participate in Olympic ranking championship in Hyderabad

Srinagar, Jun 04 (KNS): Jammu and Kashmir National Conference President Dr. Farooq Abdullah on Tuesday asserted that the physical and social advantages of games and sports are impressive, saying that sports and other physical activity should make up part of the basis of children’s upbringing.

Party president who flagged off a team of 11 Taekwondo players from his Srinagar residence to participate in the second open international Olympic ranking championship to be held at Kotla Vijay Bhaskar Reddy Indoor Stadium from 11th to 16th June said, “It gives me a hope to see you all going there to compete in the sports event. I am hopeful that you all will strive hard to achieve laurels for the state and your respective families in particular. Sports in all forms usually competitive physical activity gives young kids physical and mental activity to cope up with the challenges of future. I wish you all the best in your endeavors.”

Exhorting the young kids to achieve greater heights in their life he said, “You must all give your best and compete to win. I wish you greater successes in your lives.”
Referring to the financial implications of attending the event, Dr. Farooq said, “I will be writing a letter to honorable governor and I will impress upon him to come to the rescue of the players. I believe it is the duty of state government to bear the expense of the players who take part in such events conducted outside the state.”
