Srinagar, 13 Dec (KNS): The Department of Psychiatry, Advanced Centre for Mental Health, SKIMS Medical College Hospital (MCH), Bemina, Srinagar, has brought laurels to the institution by securing First Prize in the Oral Presentation category at the Postgraduate Research Program Presentation (PGRP-2025) organised by SKIMS Deemed University at SKIMS Soura.
The award-winning presentation was delivered byDr. Shagun Saini, who recently completed her postgraduate training, on her thesis titled “Clinical Severity, Psychiatric Comorbidities and Psychosocial Profile of Treatment-Seeking Adolescent Patients with Deliberate Self-Harm.” The research was conducted under the expert guidance ofDr. Abdul Majid, Professor & Head, Department of Psychiatry and Sub-Dean, SKIMS Medical Colleg,e Bemina. The study addresses a rapidly increasing and clinically significant mental health concern,emphasisingg the need for deeper analysis and focused research to enhance patient care outcomes.
Dr. Shagun Saini was conferred the prestigious award by Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of Jammu & Kashmir, Shri Manoj Sinha Ji, during a glittering held at SKICC, Cheshma Shahi, Srinagar. On the same occasion, Dr. Abdul Majid was also felicitated by Prof. (Dr.) Vivek Lal, Director PGIMER Chandigarh, in recognition of his significant contribution towards the successful organization of the poster exhibition involving multiple specialties and super-specialties of SKIMS and SKIMS Medical College Bemina during the event.
It is noteworthy that the Department of Psychiatry, SKIMS MCH Bemina, has achieved several pioneering milestones. It has become the first department in the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir to be granted a Fellowship in Addiction Psychiatry by the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS). Additionally, the department has been awarded a funded research project by the Department of Science & Technology, Government of Jammu & Kashmir.
