Srinagar, Nov 27 (KNS): The residents of Bandipora town and its adjoining areas are up and arms against the Municipal authorities for failing to repair the defunct drainage system in the area.
According to Inhabitants, traders of Bandipora, and Nowpora market, the drainage system is dysfunctional and has resulted in immense inconvenience to them.
Many traders of Nowpora said that the government is releasing tender every year, but it is unfortunate that most of the drains are dysfunctional since years.
“Government is paying these departments a hefty amount but the shabby condition of the drainage seem that the payment remains unutilized,” they said.
“We approached to the higher ups several times but unfortunately all in vein,” they said.
They said that the Roads and Buildings (R&B) department has been constructing roads in various areas without drainage system. “The restoration of drainage system and macadamization should have been done simultaneously,” a local resident said.
It seems that the government is interesting only in macadamization not in repairing the drainage system, a social activist said.
The inhabitants urged concerned authorities to look into the issue and redress their problems at the earliest. (KNS)
