Srinagar, Sep 18 (KNS): A separate and dedicated system has been put in place under the Jammu and Kashmir Cyber Coordination Centre (JK4C) and JK1C to deal with cybercrime cases and expedite complaints lodged by victims, SSP Crime Yaseen Kichloo said on Friday.

Addressing a press conference, Kichloo said the new mechanism has been designed to ensure faster response to cybercrime complaints and provide victim-focused services across Jammu and Kashmir.

He said the system will function through dedicated wings, including the Cyber Investigation Wing, Cyber Operations Wing and the Online Crimes Against Children and Women (OCWC) wing.

Kichloo said victims of cyber fraud and other online crimes can register complaints through the national cybercrime helpline 1930 or the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal (NCRP).

Once a complaint is received, suspicious transactions and requests for freezing bank accounts will be examined through coordination between the police and the concerned banking institutions, he said.

He said timely reporting is crucial in cases of financial cyber fraud as it increases the possibility of stopping or freezing the fraudulent amount before it is moved further.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel

According to the officials, banks are also using artificial intelligence and pattern-based analysis to identify suspicious transactions and activities, while police agencies are coordinating with the Department of Telecommunications, Reserve Bank of India and the banking system for necessary action.

Kichloo said that where an investigation finds no sufficient grounds for continuing a freeze on an account, the process for unfreezing it will be initiated in accordance with the applicable procedure.

“In serious cases, an FIR will be registered and further legal action will follow,” officials said.

A dedicated mechanism has also been established to deal with complaints involving online crimes against children and women, including counselling and victim-oriented assistance.

The SSP urged citizens who fall victim to cyber fraud to immediately contact the 1930 helpline instead of delaying the complaint.

He said prompt reporting can improve the chances of freezing suspicious funds and facilitate further investigation and recovery proceedings.(KNS)
