DGP denies reports of manhandling of leaders detained at MLA Hostel

Srinagar, Nov 19 (KNS): J&K Director General Police (DGP) Dilbagh Singh on Tuesday denied the reports that some political leaders, who are detained at MLA Hostel were manhandled by security personnel on Sunday during their shifting from Centaur hotel.

In an interview with a national news channel, he termed the reports of manhandling of detained leaders as baseless and said no such incident happened. He also stated that situation in Kashmir was returning to normalcy.

33 politicians, including former ministers and legislators, who were detained at Centaur hotel-turned-sub-jail after August 5 when the Center abrogated the special status of Jammu and Kashmir under Article 370, were shifted to MLA Hostel here on Sunday.

Sources said some of the leaders, including Peoples Conference chairman and former minister Sajjad Lone, had heated arguments with authorities at MLA Hostel over the condition of room. The detainees had raised objections over the lack of heating facilities and hygiene in the rooms and had initially declined to enter the rooms. There were reports that some of them were allegedly manhandled by the security personnel on duty. (KNS)
