Srinagar, Jan 17 (KNS) ; The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Crime Branch, Kashmir, has initiated legal action against a former police employee accused of defrauding citizens by falsely promising government employment.
In a statement issued to news agency Kashmir News Service, the case was registered at the Police Station Economic Offences Wing in Srinagar following a detailed written complaint. According to the complainants, the accused fraudulently amassed approximately Rs. 23 lakhs by guaranteeing positions in government service.
The allegations state that the individual employed a sophisticated scheme, issuing counterfeit appointment orders and supplying forged documentation. This included fabricated identity cards, licenses, appointment letters, and even falsified police and Criminal Investigation Department (CID) verification reports to bolster the deception.

Upon receiving the complaint, the EOW launched a preliminary inquiry. Officials confirmed that the allegations were prima facie substantiated during the investigation. It was revealed that the accused systematically deceived the victims, extracting substantial sums of money under the guise of securing official employment.
Having established the grounds for the offence, the EOW has formally registered a case under Sections 420 (cheating), 467 (forgery of valuable security), 468 (forgery for purpose of cheating), and 471 (using as genuine a forged document) of the Ranbir Penal Code (RPC).
A comprehensive investigation into the matter is currently underway. (KNS)
