Srinagar, August 5(KNS): The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of Crime Branch Kashmir has secured convictions in two separate criminal cases related to fraud and forgery, marking a significant step in the agency's ongoing efforts to tackle economic crimes in the region.
In the first case, the Court of City Judge Srinagar convicted two individuals — Mukhtar Ahmad Guroo and Nazir Ahmad Guroo, sons of Gulla Mohammad Guroo, residents of Abi-Karpora, Nehru Park Dalgate Srinagar — in connection with FIR No. 24/2008 registered under Sections 420 and 109-B of the Ranbir Penal Code (RPC).
According to officials, the case pertained to the fraudulent collection of Rs 34 lakh from a complainant, a foreign national, under the false promise of facilitating the purchase of residential immovable property.
The accused allegedly concealed the fact that the complainant, being a foreigner, was not legally permitted to buy property in Kashmir. This deception resulted in significant financial loss to the complainant.

In the second case, related to FIR No. 54/2002, the same court convicted seven individuals accused of forging and submitting a fake 10th class marks card to secure admission into a Higher Secondary School. The accused were booked under Sections 420, 468, 471, and 120-B RPC.
Investigators said the accused acted in connivance to prepare and use fake academic credentials. The Crime Branch conducted a detailed investigation and produced strong documentary and oral evidence in court, which eventually led to their conviction.
The court sentenced all seven individuals to simple imprisonment for a period of two years and imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 per offence.
The Economic Offences Wing, formerly the Crime Branch Kashmir, stated that these convictions demonstrate its commitment to pursuing white-collar crimes and bringing offenders to justice.
Officials said the agency would continue to handle such matters with legal precision and a high standard of investigation and prosecution.(KNS).
