‘Govt must release our pending payment’

Srinagar, Feb 27 (KNS): Authorities on Tuesday foiled the protest march of Valley contractors after they tried to proceed towards Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti’s Gupkar residence.
Scores of contractors assembled at Srinagar’s Press Enclave and chanted slogans in favour of their demands. The contractors demanded immediate fulfillment of their demands.
They have decided to boycott all developmental works and tenders till authorities release their pending payments.
The protesting contractors are demanding release of pending payments worth Rs 350 crore from various government departments and doing away with the online bill payment system.
The contractors while talking to reporters said that the government has failed to release their pending payment, resulting in immense hardships to them.
They alleged that the government is diverting the funds towards Jammu and Ladakh, which is an open discrimination with the Valley contractors.
The protesting contractors threatened to launch agitation incase the government fails to release their pending payment, for which the work has already completed.
Meanwhile, as soon as they tried to march towards the CM’s residence, police swung into action and detained scores of protesters including JKCCC General secretary Farooq Ahmad Dar. (KNS)
