Srinagar, Jul 11 (KNS): After clean sweep by the BJP in the recently concluded Lok Sabha polls across the country, feeling decimated, the Indian National Congress leadership is trying hard to remain in focus through its Jammu and Kashmir unit and all efforts to rejuvenate the party cadre in the state set to going polls later this year. In J&K, the Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) showed poor performance in the Lok Sabha polls as the party couldn’t win even a single seat and that its vote share in Assembly segments also went down drastically.

Reliable sources in Congress high command told KNS that on the directions of Congress president Rahul Gandhi, J&K affair’s in-charge Ambika Soni and the Congress big-wig Ghulam Nabi Azad will soon arrive in Jammu and Kashmir and chalk out a strategy to fight Assembly polls and a plan to bag good number of seats to at least remain in talks.

“Yes, Ambikaji and Azad sab are coming to J&K to rejuvenate the party that is feeling demoralized after the mass defeat and clean sweep by the BJP across the country including Jammu,” top Congress leader in New Delhi told KNS over phone. He said that the two leaders will meet each and every leader of the party including those from South Kashmir and discuss threadbare the future strategy as to how the party can be strengthened once again so that it stages a comeback in the Assembly polls slated later this year.

In Jammu and Kashmir, Congress couldn’t win even a single Parliamentary seat as BJP swept on both seats in Jammu region and also in Ladakh region as well while in Kashmir, National Conference bagged all three seats of Srinagar, Anantnag and Kupwara.

A state based Congress leader admitted that party cadre was feeling demoralized on ground due to the recent defeat and poor performance in all Assembly constituencies across the State, there is likelihood of major revamp that includes change in district presidents, constituency presidents and zonal presidents as well. “A change in the party structure is highly inevitable and that it is time to infuse new energy into the party cadre ahead of the crucial Assembly polls in the State. There is possibility that Congress can bounce back and emerge as a single largest party but for that efforts at all levels are a must,” the leader said.

The party, according to reliable sources, is also trying to keep the flock together, as many leaders were planning to quit while as some have already left and joined National Conference.

When contacted, state Congress president Ghulam Ahmed Mir told Kashmir News Service (KNS) that the party will go through a major revamp in the coming days and that top Congress leaders will visit Kashmir in the weeks ahead. “In the wake of Assembly polls, we are going to form a concrete strategy to bounce back,” he said.
