Srinagar, Feb 22 (KNS): The state Congress chief, Ghulam Ahmad Mir on Wednesday subtly hinted at the NC- Congress bonhomie for the forthcoming parliamentary polls slated for South and Central Kashmir.
Mir while talking to KNS said people on ground associated with the Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) want it to stitch a common ground with NC so that the parties could defeat the communal elements that are busy sprouting roots in the state. “Our leaders are in constant touch with the people. The reports that we are receiving from ground indicate that the public perception is that Congress should enter into a pre-poll pact with NC for the parliamentary elections,” state Congress chief told KNS.
He, however, refusing to divulge further details, said there have been no official meetings over the issue and the final decision in this regard is yet to be taken. “Unofficially such meetings have been taking place but official parleys with the National Conference are yet to be initiated,” Mir said, adding that the senior leadership of both Congress and National Conference is yet to sit together and decide the final course of action.
Srinagar which is considered as a strong hold of NC has, as per Congress chances of registering triumph from the constituency while as Congress could do better in South Kashmir belt, wherein, according to party, it has strong foothold.
Srinagar’s parliamentary seat fell vacant after MP Tariq Karra resigned from his post and bid adieu to PDP while as South Kashmir’s seat fell vacant after Mehbooba Mufti assumed charge of the state chief minister last year in April. (KNS)
