Authorities says will act tough against rumor mongers

Srinagar, Aug 27 (KNS): Soon after the rumors were spread over the hearing of Article 35-A, chaos was witnessed on Monday in Lal Chowk and other areas after the youth hit the streets to protest against the hearing of State Subject Law at the top Court of India.
Clashes erupt in the commercial Hub Lal Chowk after the rumors were spread over the hearing of Article 35-A at the top court of India.
Witnesses said that the shopkeepers closed down their shops in various areas of Srinagar.
However, police urged the people not to pay heed over the rumors, saying that the main hearing on Article 35-A is listed for August 31.
“Confusion has been created about listing of the Article 35-A case in the Supreme Court for today. In this regard, let me clarify that it is a fresh case filed with regard to Article 35A which has been listed at S. No 10 before Chief Justice. This has nothing to do with the original case pending in SC which may be listed for 31st though the exact date would be made public on Tuesday. Probably this new case may also be clubbed with the petition filed by RSS backed NGO ‘we the citizens’,” police said.
However, ADGP Security, Homeguards, Law & Order, J&K Munir Ahmad Khan termed the reports as ‘incorrect’, saying that rumor is being spread by miscreants over hearing of the case at Supreme Court (SC).
“A rumour is being spread by miscreants that hearing of Article 35 A case in the supreme court is today. This is not a fact. We will investigate all these rumour mongering cases and deal with the culprits strictly,” Khan tweeted.
Reports said that the clashes also erupted in South Kashmir’s Shopian and Anantnag district and also in Sopore area of north Kashmir's Baramulla after the rumours were spread over the Article 35-A case.
They said that scores of youth also sustained injuries during the clashes. Moreover, a spantaneous shutdown was observed at various places in north, South and central Kashmir areas throughout the day. (KNS)
