Centre to fund 90 percent of rural employment costs in J&K under G‑RAM‑G

Srinagar, Dec 20 (KNS): The central government will provide 90 per cent of funding for rural employment programmes in Jammu and Kashmir under the newly enacted Viksit Bharat–Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin) Bill, 2025 (G-RAM-G), with the remaining 10 per cent contributed by the Union Territory.

The law replaces the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) and increases the statutory entitlement of wage employment from 100 to 125 days.

As per the details available with Kashmir News Service (KNS), the Centre’s funding share remains the largest for Himalayan states and Union Territories with legislatures, including Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel

For other states and UTs with legislatures, the Centre will fund 60 per cent of costs and the states 40 per cent, while Union Territories without legislatures will be fully funded by the Centre.

It said that the revised funding structure allows the central government to provide predictable allocations for rural employment and related infrastructure projects across the country.

The G-RAM-G Bill will take effect after Presidential assent.(KNS)
