Tarigami expresses concern over lack of relief efforts

Uri, June 10 (KNS): A delegation of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), led by senior leader and Member of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, Mohammed Yousuf Tarigami, visited the border town of Uri to assess the situation of families affected by cross-border shelling.

Speaking exclusively to Kashmir News Service (KNS), Tarigami said the delegation, which included senior MPs from Bengal, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Rajasthan, witnessed firsthand the devastation caused by the shelling.

He expressed deep disappointment over the inadequate response from the government, stating that affected families are living in overcrowded rooms without basic facilities like water or proper sanitation.

“In one room, 7 to 8 members are being accommodated, with no proper access to water or medicine. It’s unfortunate that no serious relief or rehabilitation plan has been initiated,” he said.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel

Tarigami added that the compensation provided — a meager ?1.3 lakh — is insufficient to rebuild damaged homes or restore lives. He called on both the central and state governments to act jointly and urgently.

“These people live near the Line of Control and are the first line of defense. Ignoring their plight undermines the country’s commitment to national security,” he said.

He emphasized that the delegation's visit was not political but an expression of solidarity. “We will raise this issue in Parliament and other forums to ensure the voices of border residents are heard,” he said.

Tarigami concluded by urging the government to provide temporary shelters, medical support, and immediate relief to affected families. (KNS)
