CPI(M) demands immediate restoration of J-K Statehood, democratic rights

Thiruvananthapuram, Jan 18 (KNS): The Central Committee of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) unanimously adopted a special resolution demanding the immediate restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir and the reinstatement of all democratic rights of its people.

The resolution was adopted at the Central Committee meeting held from January 16 to 18 at EMS Academy in Thiruvananthapuram. The party said the continued denial of statehood and democratic rights to Jammu and Kashmir was part of a broader assault on federalism and democracy under the BJP-led Union government.

The Central Committee also congratulated the Left Democratic Front (LDF) government in Kerala for eradicating extreme poverty in the state, calling it a major achievement of the Kerala development model based on decentralised governance, progressive politics and a rights-based approach.

It said the achievement was particularly significant as it was accomplished despite what it described as a “fiscal war” by the Union government against opposition-ruled states.

The CPI(M) praised the LDF government for its decision not to notify the four labour codes, reiterating its pro-worker stand. It expressed confidence that the people of Kerala would elect the LDF for a historic third consecutive term in the upcoming assembly elections.

Reviewing preparations for assembly elections due in Kerala, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Assam and Puducherry, the party said it would campaign on the LDF’s achievements in Kerala while exposing the BJP-led Centre’s alleged attack on federalism and the Congress’s failure to effectively counter it.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelIn West Bengal, the party said it would work to defeat both the Trinamool Congress and the BJP, while in Tamil Nadu it would contest along with the DMK-led alliance. In Assam and Puducherry, it said efforts would focus on mobilising anti-BJP forces to defeat BJP-led governments.

The Central Committee strongly criticised the Union government for pushing what it called anti-people policies, including the notification of labour codes, changes to MGNREGA, and proposed legislation such as the Seeds Bill and Electricity Amendment Bill. It also opposed 100 per cent FDI in insurance and private entry into nuclear power, warning of serious consequences.

The CPI(M) alleged increasing attacks on minorities, women, Dalits and Adivasis, accusing BJP governments of inaction. It also criticised the Election Commission’s Special Intensive Revision exercise, terming it politically motivated.

The party extended full support to the February 12 general strike against labour codes and announced campaigns against the dilution of MGNREGA, US actions in Venezuela, and Israeli aggression in Palestine, reaffirming its commitment to oppose the BJP and Hindutva forces nationwide.(KNS).
