Srinagar, June 10 (KNS): The Counter-Intelligence Kashmir (CIK) has arrested a man from Srinagar for pretending to be a senior officer of the Jammu and Kashmir Police.
According to reports reaching to KNS, said that the man has been identified as Barkat Ali Parray, son of Ghulam Mohammad Parray, from Sheltang, Srinagar. He was found using a photo of the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) of CIK as his WhatsApp profile picture and had been threatening people while pretending to be a police officer.
Acting on a reliable tip-off, CIK tracked down and caught the man at Jahangir Chowk, Srinagar. During the investigation, officials checked his phone and confirmed that he was using the SSP CIK’s picture on his WhatsApp profile to impersonate a police officer.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
Preliminary inquiry revealed that the suspect had downloaded the officer’s photo from the internet and used it to make people believe he was part of the police force.
Further checks showed that the man had also been involved in online gambling for over a year. He was active on gambling platforms like ‘Aviator’ and ‘777’, and had made an advance payment on the ‘777’ platform.
When questioned, he admitted to using the SSP CIK’s photo to threaten the operators of the gambling platform and demand a refund.
Officials are now further analyzing his phone and online activities to see if he was involved in any other illegal or suspicious actions.(KNS)
