Bumrah Returns as India Announce Squad for West Indies Tests

Dubai, Sep 25 (KNS): Star pacer Jasprit Bumrah has been named in India’s Test squad for the upcoming two-match home series against the West Indies starting October 2 in Ahmedabad.

Bumrah, who featured in only three of the five Tests in England due to workload management, has made himself available for both matches. The second Test will be played in Delhi from October 10.

Ravindra Jadeja has been appointed vice-captain, while Shubman Gill will lead the side. Devdutt Padikkal replaced Karun Nair, who has been struggling for form.

Chairman of selectors Ajit Agarkar said the team must balance Bumrah’s workload with future tournaments in mind. “We want the best for Bumrah but team always comes first. We have to be careful with big tournaments around,” Agarkar said.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel

Regular vice-captain Rishabh Pant, still recovering from a foot fracture sustained during the England series, was not available for selection. Agarkar expressed hope that Pant will be fit for the home series against South Africa in November.

In Pant’s absence, Dhruv Jurel and N Jagadeesan have been picked as wicketkeepers. The South Africa series will include two Tests in Kolkata and Guwahati (Nov 14–26), followed by three ODIs and five T20Is, ending on December 19.

India Squad: Shubman Gill (C), Yashasvi Jaiswal, KL Rahul, Sai Sudharsan, Devdutt Padikkal, Dhruv Jurel (WK), Ravindra Jadeja (VC), Washington Sundar, Jasprit Bumrah, Axar Patel, Nitish Kumar Reddy, N Jagadeesan (WK), Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, Kuldeep Yadav.
