Blockade of Doigam kul Handwara leaves farmers distressed

Srinagar, Jun 21 (KNS): Expressing resentment against the beacon authorities for blocking the Doigam Kul, the farmers of Handwara in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district here have demanded immediate redressal of their grievances.

The farmers of Handwara and adjoining villages are up in arms against the beacon authorities for blocking the irrigation steam Doigam kul since long. They said that the blockade of Kul due to the presence of bridge has caused immense hardships to them.

As per reports, department of Irrigation and Flood Control is cleaning the stream from last four days but have failed to clear the stream near old bus stand as the bridge constructed by beacon authorities is too down from the road, which has led to the blockade of water.

Officials in I&FC department said that “the stream will be cleared at an earliest.”

However, they said they need the help of beacon authorities in this regard.

Meanwhile, the locals urged beacon officials to look into the matter so that their agricultural land won’t get affected. (KNS)
