Beacon clears all Snowbound Passes before Parliamentary polls

Srinagar, Apr 11 (KNS): The Border Roads Organisation under the Project Beacon has cleared snow off the passes in Kupwara and Gurez in view of the parliamentary polls being held today.

Officials of the BRO said that the passes are opened during Mid-April, but due to the parliamentary elections being conducted today, men and machinery under Project Beacon was put into service for opening of the passes before polls days for smooth travel of polling staff.

Officials said Project Beacon is entrusted with the responsibility of carrying out snow clearance and opening of all the strategic passes of Kupwara and Gurez to include NC pass connecting the Tangdhar sub division, Pharkiyan Gali connecting Keran sector and Z Gali connecting the Machal sector in the Kupwara district an Razdaan pass connecting Gurez and Tulail valley with rest of J&K.

“These passes are usually opened during mid April. However due to the Lok Sabha elections all the three passes have been duly cleared before commencement of the poll. Last season has saw record breaking snow fall, though motivated personals of Beacon has constantly working in inclement weather condition and has open all the pass in Area of responsibility if 32 BRTF,” Col Mukash Commander 32BRTF said, adding this has resulted in smooth conduct of Lok Sabha poll.

The officials added that even during the winter 109 RCC and 56 RCC has tried their best to keep all the passes to the maximum time.

“Irrespective of inhospitable terrain and inclement weather condition Beacon has open the passes before expected time frame. Personal from 32 BRTF are confident to open the Zojila pass very soon,” the officials said. (KNS)
