Bandipora July 12 (KNS): The inhabitants of Banger Mohalla in Hajin town of North Kashmir’s Bandipora district have expressed strong resentment over the absence of a proper drainage system in the locality, which they say has left them suffering during even brief spells of rainfall.
Residents said that Wednesday’s rainfall once again exposed the lack of basic civic infrastructure, with lanes in the area inundated and daily life brought to a standstill. “We can’t move out of our homes as the entire locality is waterlogged. Children are unable to attend school and are confined within the four walls of their homes,” said Aisha, a local resident.
Another resident said knee-deep water on the roads has made it impossible for people to access essential items. “We are facing immense difficulties. Basic supplies like milk, vegetables, and medicines have become hard to procure,” he said.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
Locals added that the issue has persisted for a long time, and despite repeatedly raising the matter with the authorities, no steps have been taken to provide relief. “Even a few centimetres of rain causes the lanes to flood, and there’s no proper drainage to channel the water out,” they said.
They also questioned why Banger Mohalla was left out when drainage systems were laid across other parts of the town. “We don’t understand why our locality was ignored. The administration needs to look into this seriously,” a resident remarked.
The locals have urged the Municipal Committee Hajin, and the district administration to take immediate action and address the drainage issue before the situation worsens further. (KNS)
