Srinagar, Apr 07 (KNS): National Conference vice president and former chief minister Omar Abdullah Sunday said that the ban on civilian traffic on Srinagar-Jammu highway shows the people’s disconnect with the Governor’s administration and must be revoked at the earliest.

As per Kashmir News Service (KNS) correspondent, talking to reporters after addressing an election rally in border town Uri in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, Omar questioned that if civilian traffic is banned for two days a week then why the forces convoys are allowed to move on rest of the five days also and this speaks volumes about the contradiction in the claims of the Governor’s administration on the security and safety of forces convoys on Srinagar-Jammu highway.

Saying that NC president Farooq Abdullah led a token sit in on Srinagar-Jammu highway in Srinagar, the NC vice president said, “No popular government could have even thought about banning civilian traffic on Kashmir highway as I personally saw students and patients trapped at various places while driving from Srinagar to Uri.”

Saying that necessity for imposing such a ban on movement of civilian traffic on Kashmir highway didn’t arise anytime in last 30 years of militancy, Omar said, “I don’t think the situation is too bad to impose the ban on the movement of civilian traffic and better for the Governor’s administration to withdraw the ban immediately and forthwith.” (KNS)
