Srinagar, Sep 5 (KNS): The BJP's Jammu and Kashmir unit on Saturday alleged that MBBS interns were being pressured to call off their strike over the demand for a stipend hike and urged the Omar Abdullah-led government to resolve the issue through dialogue.

BJP J&K spokesperson Danish Bhat alleged that Heads of Departments had warned protesting students of strict action and said the government should immediately stop any coercive measures against the interns.

"Instead of resolving a legitimate concern raised by young doctors, the government appears to be choosing intimidation over dialogue," Bhat said.

He said MBBS interns work long hours and shoulder significant responsibilities in healthcare institutions and their demand for a fair stipend should not be ignored.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel

Bhat said medical interns are an integral part of the healthcare delivery system and their contribution should be recognised with dignity and fairness.

"Threatening students with strict action is not the way to resolve a genuine grievance. The government should immediately stop any form of pressure or intimidation and initiate meaningful dialogue with the protesting interns," he said.

The BJP spokesperson warned that any punitive action against MBBS interns for participating in a peaceful protest would be strongly opposed by his party.

He urged the government to resolve the stipend issue in a time-bound manner and ensure that no intern is victimised for raising the demand.(KNS)
