Awareness programme on rabies held in SKUAST

Srinagar,Sep 18 (KNS): Directorate of Extension, SKUAST-Kashmir in collaboration with Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Budgam conducted an awareness program on 17th September, 2020 at Haran Budgam regarding Rabies – a highly fatal but preventable zoon tic disease.
The participants included 60 Aanganwari workers and 40 farm women. Dr Aijaz A Dar, Assistant Professor (Vety. Medicine) threw light on disease transmission, prevention and control strategies and emphasized on collaborative and unified efforts for achieving zero human deaths from dog-transmitted rabies by 2030.
Dr Nazir Ahmed and Dr Mir Nadeem Hassan discussed about the zoonotic potential of this disease, & relevant literature was also distributed for greater readership and dissemination of theme-related message.
The program was attended by Mr. Mohd Azhar Lone, CDPO Budgam, Dr Nasir A Dar, Senior Scientist & Head, KVK Budgam besides scientists from the Kendra, DARS and Directorate of Extension, SKUAST-Kashmir.
The event was part of the Directorate’s efforts in promoting awareness against this trans-boundary disease and reflects the institutional concerns and will to fight this disease. (KNS)

It's pertinent to mention, the University is conducting rabies-related online photo, painting and quiz competitions from 9-28 September, 2020. (KNS)
