Army pays tribute to its slain Major

Srinagar, Jun 18 (KNS): Army on Tuesday paid tribute to Late Major Ketan Sharma who was killed in an encounter with militants in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Monday.

In a solemn ceremony at BB Cantt, Lieutenant General KJS Dhillon, Chinar Corps Commander and all ranks paid homage to the slain on behalf of the nation.

To pay solidarity, representatives from other security agencies also joined in to pay their last respects to the slain.

The slain Major Ketan Sharma sustained bullet injury while he was leading a team in the encounter in village Badura of Anantnag district. He was provided immediate first aid and evacuated to 92 Base Hospital. However, he succumbed to his injuries.

Maj Ketan Sharma was 31 years old and had joined the Army in 2012.

He belonged to Shradha Puri town of Meerut District of Uttar Pradesh and is survived by his wife and a daughter.

The mortal remains of the slain were taken for last rites to his native place, where he would be laid to rest with full military honours.

In this hour of grief, the statement issued to KNS reads that Army stands in solidarity with his bereaved family and remains committed to their dignity and wellbeing. (KNS)
