Announce free ration for 6 months to farmers affected by hailstorm, flash floods: Qaisar Lone

Srinagar, Jun 12 (KNS): Senior National Conference leader and MLC Qaisar Jamsheed Lone on Wednesday has asked the Governor administration to depute a team to assess damage done by hailstorm and flash floods across Kashmir valley.

As rains wrecked havoc last night, he appealed the Governor to announce free ration for six months to the affected farmers. “Farmers across valley are in distress after the hailstorm and flash floods yesterday,” he said.

“I have been getting calls from different parts of Kupwara district, particularly Hyhama area, where the crops are totally damaged while some houses, roads and culvets are partially damaged,” Lone said.

“I have spoken to the district administration and asked them to take necessary action to assess the damage,” he added.

He also pointed out that the people in district Kupwara are totally dependent on rice paddy cultivation and damaged rice paddy crop would mean they will have nothing to eat.

“I appeal the Governor to take this disaster seriously and announce free ration for six months to the affected people,” he said. (KNS)
