Srinagar, Feb 20 (KNS): Scores of Anangwadi workers and helpers on Monday staged protest against the department for failing to increase their monthly honorarium from past several years.
The workers and helpers assembled at Srinagar’s press enclave and chanted slogans against the department as well as the government.
According to the KNS correspondent, the protesters were demanding authorities to increase their monthly honorarium, fixation of final seniority lists and implementation of new pension scheme to workers and helpers.
Protesters also said that they will block the M A road on Wednesday to protest against the failures of the government.
Fahmeeda, one among the protesters said that the government has failed to fulfill its promises done with the thousands of workers. “We have been pressing for our demands from past several months but unfortunately, the state government is not paying heed over our demands. Thus, pushing our families to face hardships,” he said.
She said that the government must enhance their monthly honorarium at an earliest so that the workers here could heave a sigh of relief.
Threatening to launch agitation in favour of their demands, the Anganwadi workers said that they will block the M A road on Wednesday to press for their demands. “We are being forced to take streets to press for the genuine demands. The authorities should have increased our monthly honorarium much earlier but they left us to face hardships,” they said.
They appealed the government especially Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti and concerned Minister Sajad Gani Lone to fulfill their demands.
Meanwhile, scores of the Anganwadi workers from north Kashmir also protested to press for their demands of increasing the monthly honorarium.
The protesters assembled at Carrippa Park in Baramulla and raised anti-government slogans.
They said that the government has miserably failed to look into the issues pertaining to the Anganwadi workers, who are serving the department on meager amount.
“The government made hoax promises with the hundreds of Anagwandi workers so far, causing immense hardships to our families,” District President of Anganwadi Union, Mymoona Nazki said.
She said that the government has assured them several times that their genuine demands will be fulfilled but unfortunately all the promises and assurances done with them proved hoax on the ground.
While threatening the government, District President of Anganwadi workers said that “we will go for bigger protests till the demands won’t meet.” (KNS)
