Altaf Thakur grieves over loss of lives killed by avalanches

 Srinagar, Jan 15 (KNS): Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) Jammu and Kashmir spokesman Altaf Thakur  expressed shock and grief over the death of five soldiers and six civilians in various incidents of snow avalanches across Kashmir in the wake of fresh heavy spell of snowfall.

 
Thakur urged the Lieutenant Governor Girish Chandera Murmu to work out a compensation for the families of civilians who died in avalanches and to direct the administration to remove snow from all major routes in Kashmir, a statement issued to KNS said.
 
He also urged the LG to take immediate steps for utilizing pumps to pull out water from the low-lying areas of Srinagar stating that water logging has caused huge inconvenience to people, statement reads.
 
In a statement to KNS , Thakur said, “BJP stands with the fallen soldiers in this hour of grief adding that the jawans who died on duty while protecting the borders deserve rich tributes. He said that BJP expressed sympathies with the families of army men and BSF personnel who died in Machil and Nowgam sectors due to avalanches.”
 
Thakur also expressed heartfelt condolences with the families of civilians who died in Kangan area of Ganderbal district due to snow avalanches and urged the LG to provide adequate compensation to the NoKs of slain.
 
He appealed the administration to make essential commodities including LPG gas and kerosene available for the people in Srinagar and all district headquarters. He called for immediate restoration of electricity in Srinagar and all other districts saying that power is need of the hour at a time when Kashmir is reeling under bone chilling cold (KNS).
