Reasi, July 22 (KNS): Authorities on Tuesday opened all gates of the Salal Dam in Jammu and Kashmir’s Reasi district following continuous heavy rainfall, to manage the rising water level in the Chenab River.
Officials said the step was taken as a precaution to ensure the safety of the dam and prevent flooding. Water is being released in a phased and controlled manner, with advisories issued to residents of low-lying areas and those living along riverbanks to remain alert.
Teams from the district administration, NDRF, CRPF, and local police have been kept on standby to handle any emergency.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelPeople have been urged to avoid unnecessary movement near the river.
Heavy rainfall has significantly increased the inflow into the reservoir, prompting the controlled release of water. Similar measures were taken in June when the dam’s spillway gates were opened due to rising water levels.
Officials assured that all necessary precautions are in place to avoid downstream flooding while maintaining the dam’s safety.
