Srinagar, Sep 5 (KNS): Jammu and Kashmir Anjuman-E-Sharie Shian general secretary H.I.W.M. Aga Syed Mujtaba Abbas Mosavi on Saturday voiced support for the demand of MBBS and BDS interns for an increase in their stipend, saying the existing Rs 12,300 payment was inadequate given the responsibilities they shoulder.
Aga Mujtaba said interns were an important part of the healthcare system and would form the next generation of doctors. Their long working hours, clinical duties and responsibilities, he said, warranted greater recognition and support.
He expressed concern that the matter had remained pending despite a government-constituted committee recommending an enhancement in the stipend.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
Aga Mujtaba urged the administration to engage with the protesting interns and take an early decision on their demand.
He described the demand as genuine and called for a “fair and sympathetic” consideration of the issue, while stressing that the ongoing dispute should not affect patient care or essential healthcare services.
The remarks come amid the continuing agitation by MBBS and BDS interns across Jammu and Kashmir over the stipend issue.(KNS)
