Discussions, film screening, poetry recital, street plays bring down curtains

Jammu, Feb 23 (KNS): The final day of the three day Jammu and Kashmir Literary and Cultural Festival was a mix of discussions, conversations, film screening, theatre / folk performances, street plays and a poetry session. A film on noted Kashmiri short story writer and poet Amin Kamil was also screened on Friday, with members of the audience discussing the film. Produced by Sahitya Akademi, New Delhi, the film tells the story of this eminent literary figure of the State.
Panel discussion on collective scenario of music in Jammu and Kashmir focusing on problems and prospects was one of the key activities of the day. The panelists identified various factors impacting proper development of music in the State and suggested ways of improving the scenario.
On the concluding day today minister for Public Works, Syed Naeem Akhter visited the Abhinav Theatre compound. Speaking on the sidelines of the event, the minister congratulated the Academy and appreciated the efforts put in by it for promotion and development of arts, culture and languages.
Earlier while moderating the screening of film on Amin Kamil, Secretary JKAACL, Dr. Aziz Hajini said that Academy’s current initiative of hosting of multilingual and multicultural programmes is aimed at making culture part of daily discourse in the State. He announced holding of such events on regular basis.
The 3-Day festival concluded with hosting of simultaneous cultural and literary events comprising panel discussions, street plays, book exhibition, visual art exhibition, and a short story session. The events were held at various venues of Jammu city.
The in-house talent performance staged by the staff of the Academy made the concluding day livelier. Singing, mimicry, and skits were some of the performances given by staffers. The three day event coincided with the International Mother Tongue Day. (KNS)
