Bandipora,Jan 7 (KNS) : In continuation of National Road Safety Month 2026, the Office of the Assistant Regional Transport Officer (ARTO), Bandipora, organised a comprehensive Road Safety Awareness Programme aimed at promoting safe driving practices and strengthening adherence to traffic rules and regulations, especially among commercial vehicle drivers.

A large number of commercial drivers actively participated in the programme and were sensitised about the provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, the importance of traffic signs, speed limits, the use of safety devices, and responsible driving behaviour. Emphasis was laid on the crucial role of commercial drivers in ensuring public safety, given their frequent road usage and responsibility towards passenger transport.

During the session, the ill effects of drug addiction on human health were highlighted in detail, with special focus on its dangerous impact on driving skills, reaction time, judgment, and overall road safety. Drivers were informed that driving under the influence of drugs or intoxicants poses a grave threat to their own lives as well as to passengers and other road users, often leading to fatal accidents.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel

The ARTO, Bandipora categorically warned that any commercial driver found indulging in drug abuse or driving under the influence of intoxicants would face strict legal action, including cancellation or disqualification of driving licences under the Motor Vehicles Act. It was reiterated that a zero-tolerance policy would be adopted against such violations in the larger interest of public safety.

The programme concluded with an appeal to all drivers to act as responsible road users, strictly follow traffic rules, refrain from substance abuse, and contribute towards making roads safer. The initiative was appreciated by the participants and was termed effective in reinforcing awareness about road safety and lawful driving practices.

The programme forms part of the department’s ongoing efforts under National Road Safety Month–2026 to reduce road accidents and foster a culture of safe and disciplined driving in the district.(KNS)
