ANC president welcomes Apex court decision on internet clampdown in Kashmir

Srinagar Jan 14 (KNS):   Awami National Conference President Begum Khalida Shah has welcomed the decision of the Supreme Court for terming the Internet clampdown for indefinite periods as a violation of Fundamental Right and orders for imposition of Section 144 of CRPC repeatedly as abuse of law.

She said in a statement to KNS, “10 million citizens of J&K are reeling under the world's longest imposed clampdown are awaiting Supreme Court's judgment for lifting of all curbs put in place since august 5th 2019 after the Unilateral, Unconstitutional and Illegal abrogation of Article 370 and Article 35A of the Indian constitution.(sic).”

In a statement issued to KNS, the ANC Chief expressed confidence that the Supreme Court of India in keeping with its highest traditions of Judicial respectability acknowledged world over will deliver its verdict on Article 370 and Article 35A providing Constitutional guarantees to the people of Jammu and Kashmir State for protecting their unique and distinct identity, culture and dignity.

“Article 370 is not a legal issue alone but a political commitment arrived at after protracted negotiations between two Sovereign people - India guaranteeing to respect and protect the demography, land, resources, economic rights and jobs, till a Final Solution to the Kashmir Issue is arrived,” she said in a statement.

Begum Khalida Shah further stated that “repeated conspiracies since 1953 by New Delhi was the root cause of mistrust with the confidence of the people of Kashmir in the Union having reached its nadir today. One more attempt by BJP to repeat the 1953 drama with individuals and groups not mandated by the people to represent them will be the last nail in the coffin. Let it be crystal clear to all that Article 371 and Statehood cannot be an alternative to Article 370.Kashmir is no Shillong, Meghalaya or Mizoram and all such attempts will be rejected throughout Jammu and Kashmir.”

“ Need of the hour is to raise one voice from a joint platform for restoration of Article 370, J&K Constitution and the State flag to its people. Kashmir has International dimensions with 45% of the original State's area and 20% of its population (as of Oct 26tn, 1947) sliced away over years between China and Pakistan. Three wars behind us and the forth one round the corner warrants a realistic approach with regards to Kashmir dispute for the larger good of Indo - Pak and a peaceful South East Asia,” she added in a statement.
