Jammu, Dec 31 (KNS): The Jammu and Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) registered 78 corruption-related cases and secured convictions in seven cases during 2025, officials said on Wednesday.

According to official data, the cases registered during the year included 36 trap cases, 18 cases related to disproportionate assets, 15 cases involving abuse of official position, eight cases linked to a land scam involving fraudulent alienation of custodian land, and one case related to illegal appointments.

Charge-sheets were filed before competent courts in 43 cases during the year. Of the cases decided by courts in 2025, seven resulted in convictions, leading to the conviction of 13 accused persons, officials said.

The bureau said it also focused on preventive vigilance and systemic reforms during the year. A total of 703 verifications were carried out, including miscellaneous matters, leading to the disposal of 764 cases, including those pending from previous years.

During 2025, the ACB issued 41 alert notes and 91 advisories to various government departments, highlighting procedural lapses, systemic deficiencies and areas vulnerable to corruption, officials said.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel

District Vigilance Officers referred 15,197 matters to the bureau over the last five years, of which 12,406 were disposed of, reflecting a disposal rate of around 90 per cent. Of these, 3,960 matters were disposed of during 2025, the bureau said.

The ACB also conducted 18 new joint surprise checks and concluded 19 such checks, including backlog cases, during the year. In addition, 25 preliminary enquiries were registered, of which 20 were finalised within the year.

Officials said public outreach remained a key focus area, with the bureau organising vigilance awareness programmes involving citizens, students and government employees to promote awareness against corruption and encourage reporting through official channels.

The bureau also conducted training programmes for investigating officers during the year and said plans are underway for specialised training courses for newly inducted officers in coordination with central investigative agencies.

The ACB reiterated its zero-tolerance policy towards corruption and said complaints are being handled in a fair and confidential manner.(KNS).
