Jammu March 16 (KNS): The Director General of Police J&K Dilbag Singh today declared open the 3rd edition of Shaheed Aman Memorial T20 Cricket Tournament at Chowgan Sports Ground in Kishtwar. He also inaugurated the newly constructed Joint Interrogation Center at District Police Lines Kishtwar. He was accompanied by ADGP Jammu Zone Shri Mukesh Singh.

 

The DGP who was the chief guest inaugurated the Cricket tournament in presence of ADGP Jammu Mukesh Singh, DIG DKR Range Dr Sunil Gupta, Commander 9 Sector RR Brig. Pranab Mishra, DC Kishtwar  Ashok Sharma, SSP Kishtwar Shafqat Hussain Batt, families of martyrs and respectable citizens of the Kishtwar district. He led the officers/officials and citizens in observing two minutes of silence in memory of the Shaheed Aman Thakur and other martyrs of J&K Police.

 

Speaking on the occasion the DGP welcomed and thanked all the players of different teams participating in the tournament and citizens who came to witness the inaugural match. He said that this tournament provides an opportunity to pay tribute and homage to the brave officers and jawans of J&K Police. He said that Jammu and Kashmir Police is proud of its martyrs who while protecting people and the nation sacrificed their lives and illuminated the name of our force and country, and wrote their names in golden letters in our collective memory.

 

The DGP while remembering the sacrifice of Martyr DySP Aman Thakur said that in 2019 while fighting terrorists in an encounter in Kulgam the brave officer laid down his life while evacuating one of his Army colleague who was injured in the same encounter. He said that it was a sad day. The DGP said that the aim of organizing different sports events by the J&K Police is to celebrate sports, mutual brotherhood and to remember and pay tributes to the martyrs.

 

The DGP said that Kishtwar is multi lingual district and is unique in many ways in comparison to other districts of J&K. He said that the prevailing peace is result of strong brotherhood of the citizens of the district and emphasised that more efforts need to be taken to strengthen this brotherhood. He said that the terrain and topography of Doda and Kishtwar is very difficult. He hailed the people of these districts as peace loving which helps in maintaining a peaceful atmosphere. He said that police and security forces are working hard for peace & order and without the support and cooperation of people the same cannot be achieved, he added. He advised the youth to stay away from drugs and engage in different sports activities for good life and health.

 

Speaking to the media the DGP said that during the last two weeks nefarious intent of Pakistan supported terrorist agencies and their handlers in Jammu and Kashmir came to fore once again as innocent people were targeted. DGP said that Jammu and Kashmir Police alongwith other security forces has increased and expanded the number of CI operations to neutralized terrorists involved in killing of innocent people. He said for the safety of people and securing the lives of common people stringent action is being taken. He said that J&K Police is providing a number of platforms for the youth of Jammu and Kashmir to hone their talent and provide an opportunity to show their talent to the world.

 

Later the DGP accompanied by ADGP Jammu Mukesh Singh led the Police and Civil Administration officers to a wreath laying ceremony organised to pay rich floral tributes to the martyr DySP Aman Thakur at the Aman memorial in the District Police Office Kishtwar. Other dignitaries and families of martyrs and citizens also paid floral tributes to the martyrs on the occasion.

 

In the afternoon the DGP accompanied by other officers inaugurated the newly constructed Joint Interrogation Center in District Police Lines Kishtwar. On the occasion after inspecting the newly constructed building, the DGP interacted with the officers.

 

The new JIC will be equipped with the latest gadgets and technology to achieve better results of policing. On the occasion the DGP decorated two Head Constables with DGP’s medal for their dedication and devotion to their work.(KNS)
