Srinagar February 17 (KNS): Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), the world's largest Open University, is delighted to announce the Date, Venue and Distinguished Chief Guest for its upcoming 37th Convocation.
The grand event is scheduled to take place on 20th February 2024 at the IGNOU Campus New Delhi. We are honored to share that Jagdeep Dhankhar, the Vice President of India, has graciously accepted our invitation to be the Chief Guest for this momentous occasion, adding an extra layer of significance to the event. The proceedings of the Convocation will be telecast live on IGNOUs Gyan Darshan Channel, Swayam Prabha Channels for Higher Education Managed by IGNOU and streamed live through Facebook Page of IGNOU (https://www.facebook.com/OfficialPageIGNOU).
All the Learners who have completed their programme in the Term End Examination December 2022 and June 2023 are eligible to apply for receiving the degree. Online Portal for registration for the 37th convocation and remitting the requisite fee is open. The eligible students, who have not paid the requisite registration fee of Rs. 600/- per certificate online so far, may pay the requisite fee through https://onlineservices.ignou.ac.in/convocation/, informed Dr. Shahnawaz Ahmad Dar, the Regional Director of IGNOU Regional Centre Srinagar.
Dr. Shahnawaz said that the university is also going to distribute the degrees through the Blockchain Technology. Blockchain-supported distribution of degrees ensures faster submission of degrees through the DigiLocker, he said. Students pursuing different programmes from the IGNOU will be able to access and download their degree certificates from their Digilocker accounts. The step for blockchain supported degree distribution has been taken to ensure faster submission and authentication of degrees through Digi-Locker. Dr. Shahnawaz said that the students are informed to create an account in the Digilocker so as to swiftly access the degree on the day of convocation when Honble Vice President of India, Shri Jagdeep Dhankhar will click the button for the distribution of degrees through blockchain technology. DigiLocker is a flagship initiative of Ministry of Electronics & IT (MeitY) under Digital India programme. DigiLocker aims at 'Digital Empowerment' of citizen by providing access to authentic digital documents to citizen's digital document wallet. DigiLocker is a secure cloud based platform for storage, sharing and verification of documents & certificates.
The Regional Director also informed that the 37th Convocation function will also be simultaneously held at some selected Regional Centre of IGNOU. The IGNOU Regional Centre Srinagar has also been selected as one of the Regional Centres to organize the Convocation function. The function will be organized by the IGNOU Regional Centre Srinagar for the Learners of the Kashmir and Ladakh region and the venue for the function is Gandhi Bhawan, University of Kashmir. The students who have opted to receive the degrees during convocation in Srinagar are informed to reach the venue by 9.00 a.m.
Dr. Shahnawaz further added that for the 37th convocation of IGNOU under IGNOU Regional Centre Srinagar, 9616 Learners belonging to 126 different programmes are eligible for receiving degrees on the convocation. Among which 1266 have registered for receiving their degrees on the convocation and 214 Learners have opted to receive the degree in person during the Regional Convocation of RC Srinagar.
Dr. Shahnawaz also informed that the last date of fresh admission and re-registration for all the programmes offered in ODL and Online mode by IGNOU for January 2024 session has been extended till 29th February 2024. The prospective students can refer to the e-prospectus 2024 of IGNOU for the complete details regarding all the programmes. The e-Prospectus is available on the website of IGNOU (www.ignou.ac.in) and of the Regional Centre Srinagar (www.rcsrinagar.ignou.ac.in). The applicants interested to enroll in any programme can access the admission portal of the university at ignouadmission.samarth.edu.in.
