Union Minister Jitendra Singh, LG Manoj Sinha Express Grief; Army Helicopters Airlift Injured
Udhampur, Aug 7 (KNS): 3 CRPF personnel lost their lives and at least 10 others were injured—five of them critically when their vehicle rolled into a deep gorge in the Basantgarh area of Jammu and Kashmir’s Udhampur district on Thursday.
According to KNS, the CRPF vehicle was travelling through a hilly terrain when it skidded off the road and plunged into the gorge. A rescue operation was launched immediately, and all injured personnel were evacuated from the site.
“Five of the injured are in critical condition and have been shifted to a hospital for advanced treatment,” an official said.
On the request of Deputy Commissioner Udhampur, Army helicopters were pressed into service to airlift the seriously injured jawans to medical facilities.
Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh expressed his concern over the incident on X.

Dr. Singh also mentioned that he spoke to DC Saloni Rai, who is personally monitoring the situation. “Rescue measures were initiated immediately. Locals have voluntarily come forward to assist. All possible help is being ensured,” he added.
Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha also expressed his sorrow over the loss of lives.
“Saddened by the loss of CRPF personnel due to an accident near Udhampur. We will never forget their exemplary service to the nation. My thoughts are with the bereaved families. Praying for the speedy recovery of the injured,” the LG posted on X.
He said he has directed senior officials to ensure the best possible care and assistance to the injured.(KNS)
