2 minors killed, woman injured in bear attack in North Kashmir

Srinagar, Aug 19 (KNS): Two minors have lost their life in a leopard attack, while a 39-year-old woman sustained injuries in three separate wild animal attacks in north Kashmir's twin district.

According to KNS Correspondent, Subhat Jan, a six-year-old girl daughter of Abdul Ahad Mir, was tragically attacked by a leopard while playing near her home in Nichama Rajwar. The leopard took her into the dense forest. 

Upon hearing her cries, family members and locals rushed to her aid, chasing down the leopard and rescuing the girl. Despite their efforts, the girl's injuries were critical, and she was rushed to GMC Handwara. Tragically, the minor girl succumbed to her injures on way. 

In another incident, Rafeeqa Begum, a 39-year-old woman and wife of Nazir Ahmad Pir, a resident of Drangsoo Mawer, suffered a black bear attack while tending to her kitchen garden. The attack left her with severe injuries, prompting her immediate evacuation to NTPHC Qalamabad for treatment. 

Due to the extent of her injuries, she was later referred to SMHS Hospital in Srinagar for further medical care.

The occurrence of these distressing incidents has spread panic among the local villages, leading to a collective call for action from the wildlife department. 

Villagers urged authorities to take measures to trap or tranquilize the dangerous animals in order to prevent further tragedies.

Meanwhile, a leopard attacked and killed a minor boy in Darakujan village of Uri in Baramulla district this evening. The deceased boy has been identified as Mukhtiyar Ahmed of Darakujan.(KNS)
