Srinagar, Dec 29 (KNS): The department of pediatrics GMC Srinagar in collaboration with National Health Mission organized a 17 days FBNC training program for doctors and nurses from district/sub district hospitals.
The program is an intensive training of the staff of primary and secondary care services which includes first four days of interactive/video based role play teaching followed by in-house clinical training of 13 days in which the participants are trained to manage new born babies offering immediate neonatal care and how to prevent and manage common new born problems which cause neonatal deaths particularly control on infections/ managing birth injuries/small for date and preterm babies/managing low blood sugar/low body temperature/breast feeding/resuscitation of babies. These problems account for major portion of new born deaths. The participants were also made familiar with the equipments required in SNCU and their handling. The upgrading of the skills of medical officers and nurses shall go a long way in managing new born babies at primary and secondary level, reducing referral and also further making a dent in neonatal mortality.
The new born care centres and spec5al new born care units have been setup at primary and district levels but the expertise to handle is lacking. These intensive programs and trainings shall help to bridge the gap.
Participants from Anantnag, Baramulla, Shopian, Pulwama, Ganderbal, Kulgam, Gurez, Kupwara, JLNM hospital and G B Panth hospital Srinagar attended the training.
The training was facilitated by the senior faculty members of the department. Certificates of participation were distributed among the participants at the valedictory function. The participant from Gurez was present with Glucometre. The function as attended by the faculty members and medical superintendent of the G B Panth hospital. (KNS)
